懷孕生產是人生中重要大事,媽媽們在辛苦生產後,選擇溫馨寧靜的坐月子環境,充分的調養和休息,是恢復體力與元氣的重要關鍵,而坐月子期間應該怎麼吃才適當又不造成身體負擔呢?臺北榮民總醫院桃園分院營養師林恬如表示,產後初期,由於體力尚未恢復,惡露排出的同時子宮也在收縮復原中,若於此時就開始進補,可能造成腸胃損傷,影響子宮收縮,干擾惡露的排出。

林恬如說,這個時期可以適當補充清淡易消化的高蛋白質食物,例如以瘦豬肉、雞肉、魚肉、雞蛋、豆腐烹調餐點,搭配新鮮蔬果,幫助身體復原並促進乳汁分泌。此階段必須避免含酒精的料理,例如麻油雞酒就必須等惡露排乾淨後食用,除此之外,飲食也必須以質軟、少鹽、溫熱為主,忌麻辣、燒烤、油炸等。

林恬如指出,產後第三週身體已逐漸復原,是最好的進補時機。由於現代社會一般民眾大多營養充足,因此在進補之餘仍需控制熱量,以免造成產後肥胖,此時的飲食內容需避免生冷、重口味與油炸燒烤等食物,待產後滿月即可恢復一般飲食。
民間盛傳產後不能喝水的說法,在臨床上曾見喝米酒水造成胃潰瘍,甚至是以現榨純果汁取代飲水的做法,反而埋下疾病隱憂。由於古代生活環境與衛生條件不佳,飲用水皆來自未處理的井水或河水,為了不讓體弱產婦飲用不潔生水,才有此說法。另外,關於產婦不能洗澡洗頭的經驗談,主要起源於古代房屋多數有孔縫,洗澡洗頭易受風。

北榮桃分院長盧星華提醒,現代公共衛生與各項技術不斷地發展及提升,對於坐月子的觀念也必須與時俱進,而全方位的坐月子照護,不僅有助於產婦身體復原,還能降低日後罹患慢性病的機率。
